The Beginning: Annette was a normal Norwegian girl growing up in the fishing town of Sandnes. She claims that her values were instilled in her by her parents, that from her early years she was taught to stand up for what she believed in, and that she danced to the beat of a drum that only she heard. By the time she was fifteen, online poker had established itself as one of the more lucrative of online industries.
By the time she was a sophomore in high school. Annette started to dabble on the Internet. Fascinated by online poker sites, she began to study the game. She tried her hand at online poker games and tournaments and was extremely successful. In fact, she claims that she has never paid deposit money to an online poker site.
She started her career in 2004-2005 by participating in online freeroll poker tournaments. Annette experienced great success in these venues and won over $100,000 in cash prizes in her first year of play.
Career Highlights: The online career of Annette Obrestad gnited in September of 2006 when she won $500,000 on Poker Stars, $200,000 on Ultimate Bet, and $136,000 on Full Tilt Poker. During 2008, she continued her success in online poker by taking first place in the Stars Sunday Herald Grand on March 2nd, collecting $20,000 in earnings. She also took top honours in the Betfair Sunday GTD Event, and pocketed another $35,000.
In the World Series of Poker, Annette won the first World Series of Poker Europe Main Event on September 17, 2007, just prior to reaching eighteen years of age. For this remarkable achievement, she garnered $2.01 million, a record take for a female poker player.
Epilogue: Annette competes on the European Poker Tour as a member of Team Betfair. In November, 2007, she finished second at the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Dublin event, and earned $431,184 for her efforts.
One can’t help but notice Annette on T.V. wearing her trademark sunglasses. While she recognizes her success, Annette remains a role model for young independent women. She tells these women that one good week in online poker games is no reason to give up their educational aspirations.
Annette attributes her success to playing by intuition. She says that poker is the greatest game in the world because everyone can play, regardless of where they live, their age or appearance.
Annette aspires to play in the Unites States when she is eligible on her 21st birthday. By winning over $2.5 million in live tournaments, Annette has earned her reputation as “Queen of Cards.”
