On Saturday, July 4th the ninety-sixth Tour de France officially kick’s off. Considered the world’s most important bicycle competition, 3500 km, 21 stage cycling race , starts in Monte Carlo and ends in Paris on July 26. The world of sport is excited about the cycling event and sports betting sites have already published their quotes.
The big news of this Tour is the participation of Lance Armstrong, the legend of this competition that won the title a record 7 consecutive times. Despite past performance, the 37 year old champion is not listed as a favorite and his victory is quoted at 7.50. The favorite for the 2009 Tour is Alberto Contador Velasco. The Spanish cyclist, winner of the 2007 Tour de France, is quoted at 2.20. Velasco did not race last year because his team, involved in doping scandals, was excluded from the tour.
The title holder, Carlos Sastre Candil, is participating in the Tour in 2009, but previous performances have led him to be quoted only at 15.00. Another point in favor for Contador is the presence of Armstrong, who is part of the same team. If Armstrong feels that he is not up to the challenge, he can help the Spanish champion.
